Sergio surges into a share

Sergio Garcia grabbed a share of the lead after a second round of 66 left him level with Ryan Palmer at the halfway point of the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Garcia, who has had a disruption-filled build up to the tournament, matched his first round score at the TPC Four Seasons Resort to finish Friday on eight-under par.

The Spaniard dropped a shot at the third but followed that blip with five birdies, saving par at the 14th after hitting a poor tee shot and finding a bunker.

He then birdied the 15th with a chip in and enjoyed a solid finish as he tries to win his first title since the Players Championship three years ago.

"I am very pleased with the round," the 2004 Byron Nelson winner said after his round.

Beisiegel opened with rounds of 75 and 78.

Australia's Andrew Kelly won the event to earn the first of five full exemptions, also closing with a 75 to finish at 1-under 287. American Phil Telliard (70) was a stroke back.
